Data from the induction stage of this Phase 2 trial demonstrated that BT-11 was gut-restricted and well tolerated, with no treatment-related significant adverse events and a similar adverse event profile across placebo and BT-11 groups. Based on these data, they expect to commence an integrated Phase 3 trial of BT-11 in UC patients in the United States, Russia, Asia, and Europe in the first half of 2021.

Josep Bassaganya-Riera, Ph.D. has served as our Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer since our founding in January 2017. Dr. Bassaganya-Riera has served as the Director of the Nutritional Immunology and Molecular Medicine Laboratory since July 2002 and the Chairman of the board of directors of Biotherapeutics Inc. since October 2008. He previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of Biotherapeutics from October 2008 to September 2017 and a Research Professor of Immunology at Virginia Tech from December 2002 to May 2020. Dr. Bassaganya-Riera holds a degree in Veterinary Medicine from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and a Ph.D. in Nutrition and Immunology from Iowa State University. Our board of directors believes that Dr. Bassaganya-Riera is qualified to serve as a director based on his role as the founder of our company, his service as our President and Chief Executive Officer and his extensive management and technical experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
